Rafael Campos reflects on tough times before his breakthrough win at Bermuda

Rafael Campos, the man who won the Butterfield Bermuda Championship last November, is motivated to do amazing things at The Sentry as well. This is a tournament where the winners of the tournament and qualified players for the Tour Championship from the previous year participate. Although he expected not to be part of this spectacle, it turned out that this great golfer found a way to celebrate.

Campos stressed that those were difficult moments for him, aware that at one moment everything could disappear. Although his friends comforted him and told him that one week can change everything, it was difficult for him to accept that.

“I’ve always had a back-up plan,” Campos said, as quoted by Royal Gazette.

“This was the first time, and honestly things were going extremely bad, that I did not have a fall-back plan. It was tough on my mind knowing that I’d worked so hard for 15 years but I could lose everything and start back at square one.

It’s funny how everybody says, ‘All it takes is one week’. You try to believe it but you don’t realise it. It’s true in this sport that one week can really change your life and your family’s life.”

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican referred to the changes introduced by the PGA Tour regarding the year 2026, where only the top 100 players will keep the full cards. The experienced golfer admitted that he is not a fan of such things, although he is aware of why PGA officials do it.

Although he points out that one of the reasons is the sponsors, he believes that ‘taking away’ jobs from players is not a positive thing.

This decision did not meet with positive reactions all over the planet, especially not among the lower ranked golfers who are aware that this could collapse everything they have built.

Do you agree with the 36-year-old golfer?
