Reilly Opelka trolls doubles again amid criticism and scrutiny over radical comments

Reilly Opelka seemingly has no regrets over the comments he made about doubles as the American got back to trolling the competition by changing his Instagram bio and sarcastically urging people to “watch more doubles.”

In case you missed it, the former world No. 17 called for the tennis authorities to fully ditch doubles.

When making his feelings crystal clear on the competition, the American tennis star also said that only “failed singles players” play doubles.

“I was being sarcastic they should 100% get rid of dubs,” Opelka wrote in a comment section of an Instagram post earlier this week.

“It’s for failed singles players, there’s no such thing as a ‘doubles specialist’.. they don’t sell a single ticket, they take up practice courts/physios/resources they don’t turn a profit and they complain that they don’t make enough $$.

“That’s pretty greedy behavior if you ask me.”

Also, the American suggested that if doubles had to stay, it would be the best to have a reduced draw and only top singles players competing.

“There are so few that it doesn’t move the needle.. the best solution would be to cut the doubles draw down to 8 teams and only allow singles player to enter. Or… just get rid of it,” he said.

After facing some criticism and backlash for his radical comments about doubles, the American silently responded.

For those who know about the 27-year-old’s comments about doubles from the past, this isn’t anything surprising.

A couple of years ago, Opelka also spoke negatively about doubles and described it as a pretty boring competition.
