Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner were at the center of the latest episode of Andy Roddick’s podcast Served With. The former American champion projected his reflections in view of the Australian Open 2025 and the fight for the top of the world ATP rankings.
The former American legend talked extensively about the work of Carlitos, called to chase the current world number 1, analyzing that he does not believe that the Spanish tennis player is a machine like Jannik.
Alcaraz and Sinner won two Slam titles each last season, but the Italian tennis player was decidedly more consistent, closing the year at the top of the ATP world rankings with many points of advantage. This is considering how Alexander Zverev also managed to overtake the Spaniard in the 2024 rankings.

Speaking on his podcast Served with, Roddick highlighted the work that Alcaraz has done on his game to try to close the gap in the rankings with Jannik Sinner.
“The situation is quite clear: where there are hard courts today is Sinner territory, everything that is not hard has been Alcaraz territory,” obviously referring to Sinner’s Grand Slam successes in Melbourne and New York and the Spaniard at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships.
“They are the best on their respective surfaces. Alcaraz is a joy to watch. The expectations are very high. He is one of the biggest superstars in the world, not just in tennis, but in general.
He has improved his serve, he has worked on his movement, he is a little more rounded now in the lower half. His backhand has improved. He uses the slice more often. I think he just needs time and space mentally but I don’t think he is a machine like Sinner,” he added.
We recall Alcaraz and Sinner will be the main favourites for the final victory in Melbourne, along with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, who at the Australian Open will be supported for the first time by his new coach Andy Murray.
