Rory McIlroy: Players are winning, but golf as a whole is losing

The situation on the golf scene has been chaotic for a long time, with no indication that changes could happen. However, the latest events, meetings and the most famous personalities of this sport are optimistic for everyone. Is this finally the end of the dark clouds that hung over the golf scene?

Rory McIlroy stressed in an interview with the media that this model is not sustainable, aware that many things must be changed. Both sides are fighting for power on the golf scene, giving huge money to make the leap. Although the players benefit on this way, the question is how long will things stay like this?

“The game has got to come together, it’s not sustainable at the moment. The prize money is ridiculous. The business model is not producing the money the players are playing for.

The Saudis have spent $5bn so far with LIV and they’ve got limited traction. The PGA Tour is spending more than they’re bringing in and they’re going to run out of runway there.”- he said, as quoted by BBC.

Rory McIlroy: Nobody’s winning at the moment

McIlroy believes that no side is winning at this point, except for the players who take the big money. The public, experts and others noticed much more shortcomings than positive things.

“So the game has got to come back. Nobody’s winning at the moment, except for the players with the huge prize money they’re playing for.

The sponsors are not winning and the public is not winning because we’re not getting to see these players play together more regularly and TV is not winning.”- he said.

This situation demands that LIV Golf and the PGA Tour understand the necessity of cooperation, compromise and the fact that the future of this sport is in their hands. This situation can only lead to even greater chaos.

The leaders of both Tours will be on the move, and the coming days could provide answers.
