Rory McIlroy seems to enter this season with a completely different mindset, and a different way of playing than what we have seen so far. The goal of the Northern Irish golfer is to make big steps this season, but for something like that, it is important to make changes, adapt to the competition, and come out on top. Can Rory pull it off?
The victory at the start of the season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament in California shows that Rory really has the potential to conquer the competition this year.
In an interview with the media, the experienced golfer expressed his satisfaction with his last performance.
“It’s been a great week for a lot of different reasons, hole-in-one (in his opening round on Thursday), playing Cypress for the first time, obviously getting a win,” said McIlroy, as quoted by The Scotsman.
Rory McIlroy reveals the recipe for his victory
Fans have been wondering what the recipe for this golfer’s great game is, and Rory was open to revealing some of the details. The Northern Irish golfer emphasized the mental aspect of the game, believing it to be the essence of his changes.
Rory stayed calm in the key moments, focused on his breathing, and in the end he was rewarded for it.
Although he admits that at some moments things seem boring, the most important thing for him is efficiency on the field.
“It’s about thinking of strategy and impulses, hitting the right shot at the right time or being in a different place mentally, calming yourself down, using breathing exercises, whatever it is, and I think the one thing that I did today really well is I didn’t get too flustered,” he said.
“It certainly feels a little more boring to me. It might look a little bit more boring on the golf course, but it’s definitely more effective. That’s something that I’m consciously trying to do a little bit better of a job at. Today was a good test and I was able to come through it pretty well.”* McIlroy concluded.
