Scheffler’s little arrangement to pay his caddy

Guest on the American online podcast “Pardon My Take”, world number 1 Scottie Scheffler looked back on his XXL 2024 season and the compensation that goes with it. Revealing in passing a small arrangement to please everyone on the financial level.

The $25 million FedEx Cup bonus paid to Scottie Scheffler a few weeks ago after winning the Tour Championship at the end of the 2024 season brought his total earnings to more than $62 million on the course.

Scheffler, caddy

It must be said that with seven victories, just on the PGA Tour, the Texan has largely given himself the means to smash his own record from last year, surpassing it by almost $21 million. If we add up all the big boss’s earnings, this translates into an almost obscene $12,000 for each shot hit each year.

While the numbers can be dizzying, Scheffler seems to pay little attention to them, as he said a few days ago on the American podcast “Pardon my Take”: “It’s been a fun year, but I don’t really think about the money. It’s a big deal with FedEx and everything else, but at the end of the day, I just play golf and the money is just a gift on top of all that.”

So he pays limited attention to the numbers, but how does he keep track of the reversions to his famous co-driver on the course, Ted Scott? Again, he answers with his signature smile: “We have a young girl who helps us manage the bills because I’m like a kid at it and I can’t keep track of all this stuff. She quickly took over that job and texts me at the end of every week to say, ‘Hey, this is how much we have to pay Ted.’ I say, ‘That’s great. Perfect.’”

In professional golf, it is customary for the winner of a tournament to generally pay his caddie 10% of the money won. If he finishes in the top ten, it is 7% and 5% for the rest. It is estimated that Scott has earned $5.2 million this season.
