Serena Williams’ childhood coach has interesting proposal for Emma Raducanu

Rick Macci made an interesting offer to Emma Raducanu as Serena Williams’ childhood coach says he wouldn’t be able to coach the 22-year-old full-time but would be willing to help her in some capacity if she reached out.

Following the Briton’s third-round exit from the Australian Open, she also ended her collaboration with Nick Cavaday after the British coach decided to end their partnership due to unspecified health issues.

Last week, the 2021 US Open champion was alone at the Singapore Open and she lost in the first round to Cristina Bucsa.

This week, Raducanu is competing at the Abu Dhabi Open, for which she found a temporary coaching addition – her junior coach Roman Kelecic.

On X, Macci – who played a major role in the early development of the Williams sisters – said he could help the British tennis star fix her serve but also get mentally stronger.

“Was asked about helping Emma. If parents/team asked I would maybe guide/help mold the mental/strategic and biomechanical part from here,” the 70-year-old coach wrote on X.

“I am too busy to travel but I could rewire the serve and mindset and help set the table to eat her way back into the top ten.”

Raducanu is in no hurry to hire a new coach

Before kicking off her campaign at the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi, the 22-year-old underlined that she wants to find “the right fit” before adding a new coach on a full-time basis.

“It’s a decision that I want to take my time with. I think that’s why I haven’t necessarily jumped into something straight away, because I want to make sure it’s a right fit,” the world No. 56 told the AFP in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, Raducanu has struggled a lot with her serve in early 2025 as she blasted a total of 26 double faults across her three Australian Open matches.

While Macci believes he could help in that department, it is unlikely that the Briton will seek his help.
