Fireballs GC, Sergio García’s LIV Golf team, has announced today the signing of a new golfer for the 2025 LIV Golf League season. This is the Madrid-born Luis Masaveu who joins the team to replace Eugenio López Chacarra who, as García confirmed in October, was not going to continue with them this year.
In this way, the 22-year-old completes a 100% Spanish-speaking squad made up of two other Spaniards, captain Sergio García (45 years old) and David Puig (23 years old), along with Mexican Abraham Ancer (33 years old).
As stated in the Fireballs GC press release, Masaveu turned professional in October after having an “impressive amateur career” in which he reached the semi-finals of the 2024 US Amateur and was able to win the Low-Am trophy twice at the Spanish Open.
Another of his most notable achievements is that he managed to make the cut at the 2024 Open Championship and this, as they point out, has made him “the first Spanish amateur golfer to achieve that feat.”
From the team, García declares that they are “excited about him” since he is a “wonderful” player with “a lot of potential.” The captain of the Fireballs GC points out that the fact that this is Masaveu’s first year as a professional and that he is already “playing with the greats” will be “a good learning experience” for the youngster.
He also affirms that both he and Puig and Ancer will be at Masaveu’s side to “support him, encourage him” and to make sure that “he can enjoy his game and play as he can.”
For their part, they explain that Masaveu “is looking forward to playing for García” since, according to the young man himself, for him “it is simply incredible” to be able to play alongside the athlete he has “been watching since he was a child.” The Madrid native faces this new challenge “very happy” and promises that “I will try to learn as much as I can” with the captain.
On the other hand, Masaveu’s new teammate, David Puig, details that “Luis is a great guy and a great player” and that is why he is “excited to have him on board.” It should be noted that Puig has an advantage since fortunately he has been able to share many years with Luis in the Spanish team and thanks to this he confirms that “I know him very well.”
