Shane Lowry made six birdies in a 5-under round to establish a two-shot lead midway through the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Friday in Orlando, Florida.
The Irishman sits at 8-under (136) after his stellar second round. He moved ahead of leader Wyndham Clark, who had 71 holes and is second at 6 under.
Lowry set the tone for his round by holing a 20 1/2-foot birdie putt on the par-3 second hole at Bay Hill Club & Lodge. He added a 14-foot birdie putt on the par-3 seventh hole, his third of the day, and holed a 35-footer for birdie on the 13th.

Lowry, 37, was third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last year and is aiming for his first individual victory since the 2022 BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour. He and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy teamed up to win the Zurich Classic in New Orleans last year.
Collin Morikawa (68) and Canadian Corey Conners (70) share third place at 5 under par. Jason Day shot the best round of the tournament so far, an 8-under 64, to sit at 4 under par; he is tied with McIlroy, who shot his second straight 70, and Russell Henley (68).
Justin Thomas (70), Max Greyserman (71) and Keegan Bradley (72) are tied at 3 under par. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler settled for a par 72 and is tied at 1 under par.
As a player-run invitational, the $20 million event features a 36-hole cut for the top 50 players and ties.
Players who failed to make the 4-over-par cut included Norway’s Viktor Hovland (5-over-par), Max Homa (7-over-par), Cameron Young (9-over-par) and South Korea’s Tom Kim (10-over-par).
