Shane Lowry remains positive: ‘I’m proud of how I fought back’

The Players Championship brought a lot of surprises and interesting moments, and things are not over yet. Namely, Rory McIlroy and J.J. Spaun are playing in the playoffs today, equally motivated to celebrate in this competition.

Golf fans in Ireland focused most of their attention on Shane Lowry, who finished as T20 in this tournament, with a 5-below par 67 in the final round.

In an interview with the media, Lowry pointed out that he had a great week, having a good feeling about this tournament.

However, he is aware that he made many mistakes that cost him a better result in the end. An experienced golfer stresses that such golf courses often have unpredictable moments.

“I kind of rescued a half decent week today,” Lowry said, as quoted by Irish Examiner

“I felt like I’ve played pretty nice all week, but just anytime there is a mistake to be made, I made it. But that this golf course. You know, when you’re playing the best tournaments on the best golf courses, it’s just hard sometimes.”

Shane Lowry: I’m proud of the way I went out there dealing with what happened on the eighth hole

After three days of tough moments at TPC Sawgrass, Lowry started with four straight birdies, then added two more on the third and seventh holes. He tied for the lowest score of the day on the eighth, but his shot on the par-3 hole ended up against a tree and into a bush, resulting in a bogey. Even so, he finished with a 301-yard drive on the ninth hole and another birdie after returning to the green.

“I’m proud of the way I went out there dealing with what happened on the eighth hole. Just a bad shot. I rushed it a little bit trying to get finished. But it was nice to come out and hit a great shot on nine, two-putted that and I’m gonna sneak a top 25 which is really never a bad week. A few FedEx Cup points and a few ranking points.”

Speaking about McIlroy, Lowry had words of praise for his good friend, hoping the Northern Irishman can win this tournament.

“I beat him Wednesday and he beat me Tuesday. He’s been amazing. He turns it on, and he’s pretty good. I hope he gets the job done. This is a huge deal and the big tournament.”- he concluded.
