Shane Lowry was critical of LIV Golf fans. Namely, the Irish golfer obviously can no longer tolerate the claims of fans of the Saudi-backed Tour that the OWGR is no longer relevant. LIV Golfers are still not entitled to OWGR points, and barrages of criticism against OWGR have been coming for several years.
However, this does not change things, considering that OWGR officials still believe that LIV Golf must fulfill the conditions in order to be awarded with ranking points.
Famous names in the world of golf who are currently playing on the controversial Tour have experienced huge declines precisely because of this, but they do not seem too worried about this outcome. However, some doubt their sincerity.
In an interview with the Irish Independent, Lowry reflected on the best ranking of his career: 12th place. Although he is aware that LIV fans do not consider OWGR legitimate, the Irish golfer is delighted with the current situation.
“Well, you’ll get the LIV bots saying the world rankings don’t matter anymore, but I don’t give a —. I’m pretty happy with that.”
“I’m going to be honest, I didn’t know they were still trying to get World Ranking points.”- he said, as quoted by Mirror.
Bryson DeChambeau reacts
His rivals, and former colleagues, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau have a different point of view. Bryson criticized the OWGR just last year, believing that this system no longer makes sense. Sharing their position, the majority emphasizes the fact that there are many quality golfers at LIV Golf, and given that they are not awarded with ranking points, this calls into question this system.
“You should realise that the OWGR is not accurate,” he said.
Be that as it may, things will remain the same in the coming period, and it seems that the only way for the Saudi-backed Tour to be awarded with ranking points is to reach a final deal between them and the PGA Tour.
