Sinner aims for a record belonging to Djokovic, Nadal and Federer

The season is not over yet and could give Jannik Sinner a milestone that would bring him even closer to the great tennis legends such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Since 1990, when the ATP Masters 1000 were established, only ten players have managed to win three titles in the same season. The names are obviously the usual ones: Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, but also Andy Murray, Stefan Edberg, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Thomas Muster and Marcelo Rios, who has been joined by Sinner.

In view of Paris Bercy, the last tournament in the category, the Italian could go further and join an even smaller group of tennis players, to have won 4 ATP Masters 1000 in the same season. In this case we are obviously talking about the Big 3, who have surpassed it on several occasions.

Djokovic holds the record in this special ranking with 6 victories, in 2015, the year in which he broke every record. The precedents in Paris are not smiling for the 23-year-old, but the Italian, who this season has reached at least the quarterfinals in every tournament played, wants to repeat himself here too.

Jannik’s extraordinary 2024 has, as mentioned, brought yet another trophy. After the victory at the Australian Open, Rotterdam, Miami, Halle, the US Open and Cincinnati, the triumph also arrived in Shanghai, after a practically perfect match played against Djokovic.

The Italian is in fact the third player to win the Australian Open and the US Open, as well as more than 3 ATP Masters 1000 events on hard-courts in a season, after Roger Federer (2006) and Novak Djokovic (2011, 15). Sinner is the youngest of these two phenomena to achieve this amazing feat.

In the whole season, Sinner has earned just over $10 million in 2024. A significant prize pool, in addition of course to the Sponsors who, tournament after tournament and victory after victory, continue to grow.

The Clostebol case has not dented the fame of Jannik who is appreciated everywhere and reaches millions of fans (and some serial haters): even in China they have praised and exalted the Italian, perfect both on and off the court. Excluding sponsors, the prize pool earned by Jannik Sinner in his career is around $26 million, considerable numbers and destined to grow in the coming years for a tennis player of only 23 years old.

After the victory against Djokovic many praised the Italian and Nole himself used beautiful words to acclaim the tennis player from Italy: “or tennis was really good in this tournament, probably the best after the Olympic Games in terms of game, performance and fight. I did my best tonight. Maybe I didn’t feel 100% fresh, but at the same time Jannik deserves credit for playing the important points better than me, and that’s what made the difference.”
