Taylor Fritz started the 2025 season less brilliantly than the level he had shown in the second half of 2024.
The American ace suffered a lot after the premature elimination at the Australian Open, where everyone expected a prestigious result from him after he reached the final at the 2024 US Open in front of his fans.
The world No.4 had made a strong start to the tournament at Melbourne Park and looked set to reach at least the semi-finals, but his run was interrupted against French veteran Gael Monfils and his level has dropped dramatically since then.
A knee injury also prevented him from playing the Acapulco ATP 500 and affected him during the Indian Wells Masters 1000, where he had triumphed in 2022 by defeating Spanish legend Rafael Nadal in the final.
The 27-year-old American made it through the first rounds in California, but could do nothing against Jack Draper in the round of 16. When you consider that the young Briton played incredible tennis last week and lifted the trophy, Taylor’s defeat can be considered less serious.
Fritz is practicing well in Miami
Fritz hopes to do better at the Miami Open, a tournament that should be quite suitable for his game.
“The conditions are very different between the center court and the secondary courts, so it will be very interesting to see how I adapt to this surface,” said the American in the pre-tournament press conference.
“The fields are quite fast, but at night there is a lot of humidity and they can get slower. In any case, the conditions are faster than in Indian Wells and the bounces are much lower,” he added.
Fans and insiders are expecting further progress from Fritz this season, after showing that he is capable of reaching the final stages in Grand Slam tournaments. He also reached the final at the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
His next goal is to find a way to beat the players ahead of him in the ATP ranking, especially Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
