Goncalo Oliveira received a doping suspension by the ITIA after testing positive for metamfetamine drug and the world No. 245 failing a doping test over the usage of a recreational drug even left Nick Kyrgios stunned.
On Thursday, the ITIA announced that the 29-year-old provided a sample to the anti-doping authorities while competing at the Manzanillo Challenger in Mexico.
After the results returned, it was determined that Oliveira – who finished as runner-up at the Manzanillo Challenger that took place in late November and early December – was positive for metamfetamine.
In their statement, the ITIA said that the former doubles world No. 77 – who was born in Portugal but has switched to representing Venezuela – accepted the suspension and decided not to appeal.

Reacting to the news, Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram Story: “Steroids are fine but this is wild. Tennis world gone mad (laughing emoji).”

Oliveira denies he accepted that he was guilty
After the news of his doping suspension started going viral, the former singles world No. 194 admitted that he was facing a challenging situation but also added that he was determined to prove his “innocence.”
“I want to address the recent announcement of the provisional suspension with complete transparency and honesty,” the Venezuelan tennis player posted on his Instagram story.
“This is a truly difficult moment for me – one that feels harder than the many injury setbacks I’ve faced throughout my career.
“But just as I’ve always done, I’m determined to face this challenge with head-on with strength and resolve. I have always competed with the utmost integrity, respect and love for the game of tennis.
“I am fully committed to proving my innocence and ensuring that the truth is brought to light. I am cooperating transparently with proactively with the ITIA, and working with lawyers to seek a swift resolution of this unfamiliar process.”
Before the suspension, Oliveira appeared in only one tournament in 2025 – he lost in the Nonthaburi Challenger first round in the first week of the season.
