Texas AeM takes a 8-2 record on Day 2 of Weinman Foundation Invitational

The Texas A&M women’s tennis team takes an 8-2 record on Day 2 of the Weinman Foundation Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Aggies have a 17-3 overall two-day record at the event, including 13-1 in singles play.

In doubles, Kupres and Smetannikov defeated USC’s Parker Fry and Maia Sung, 6-2. Reed and Perez defeated Hawaii’s Forgac and Joelle Lanz, 6-2. Khirin and Mireles fell 6-3 to Peppi Ramstedt and Masuda. In the doubles exhibition match, Boyer teamed up with USC’s Simone Kay to defeat Hawaii’s Allaire Berl and Jazlyn Miyamura, 6-2.

In singles, Lucciana Perez defeated No. 37 Grace Piper of USC, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Lexington Reed needed three sets to defeat Sheena Masuda of Hawaii, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

Texas A&M other four singles victories came in straight sets. Mia Kupres, Jeanette Mireles and No. 102 Daria Smetannikov all defeated Hawaii opponents. Kupres defeated Nikola Homolkova and Mireles triumphed over Hannah Galindo by the same scores of 6-2, 6-1. Smetannikov won a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Emma Forgac. No. 15 Nicole Khirin recorded the final singles win (6-2, 6-3) over Jana Hossam of USC.

Lizanne Boyer suffered her only singles loss, losing a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Hawaii’s Makeilah Nepomuceno.
