Thanasi Kokkinakis backed Andy Murray to be “a great coach” and also noted that the former three-time Grand Slam champion is probably one of the rare people who can give tips or advice to Novak Djokovic.
Since the two old rivals announced a stunning partnership of November 23rd, the tennis community has been pretty ecstatic about their collaboration. And naturally, many are curious and wondering how it will all look when the two team up at the Australian Open.
During last week’s UTS event in London, Kokkinakis was asked to share his thoughts and he started off by praising Murray and highlighting that the Briton is a mastermind tactically.
Kokkinakis: It will feel like playing two instead of one…
“If you play against them, it’ll feel like you’re playing two people instead of one. There’s not really many people who can tell Djokovic what to do on court. He’s been there and done it all. It’ll be exciting to see how it plays out. I’m not sure how much of a difference he’s going to bring but if there’s anyone who can tell him stuff, it’s Andy. I think it’ll be just fun for fans and spectators. Seeing Andy in Djokovic’s box after they’ve been rivals for so long. It’s something good for fans, it’s good for media,” the Australian told Express-Sport.

If you remember well, one of Kokkinakis’ most painful and devastating losses came against Murray in the 2023 Australian Open second round when the former world No. 1 created that stunning 4-6 6-7 (4) 7-6 (5) 6-3 7-5 comeback after five hours and 45 minutes of grueling action.
Now, the world No. 77 may face the Briton again at the Australian Open – but this time in different circumstances. For that, Kokkinakis would need to meet Djokovic at one point in Melbourne.
