Musiwala Nethunzwi, a name probably unknown to many in the world of golf, is a man who bravely walked through his career, hoping to one day play on the big stage. Like every 14-year-old boy, he believed in success, having idols. Back in 2003, the South African golfer received an invitation to visit the Presidents Cup at the Links in Fancourt.
Considering that he was talented, he was already followed by important golf organizations.
In an interview with the media, the 35-year-old shared his emotions, remembering the moment when he had the chance to watch Tiger Woods and other golfers.
“I watched Tiger. That was the first time I saw Tiger. I watched Vijay [Singh]. I was angry when Vijay beat Tiger. But I was also happy because he’s international and beat the USA,” Nethunzwi told IOL Sport.
Musiwala Nethunzwi talks about Joburg Open
The Joburg Open will be a great chance for him to take an important step. Although he has not been as successful in previous years, the experienced golfer hopes that this year he can write a different story. Nethunzwi mainly focuses on the domestic Sunshine Tour, where he has been quite impressive.
“I’m just looking forward to the tournament. [I have] a bit of a history at the Joburg Open. I started playing Joburg Open when I was still an amateur.”
“Throughout the years that I played Joburg Open, I’ve always been improving and improving. The last two seasons, I missed the cut by one. Hopefully, this year things can change and I can finish higher.”
The South African golfer pointed out that black players should be given more opportunities to show their potential and progress in the sport. He added that even if they fail, it is important to give them a chance, rather than face failure due to lack of opportunity.
