Tom McKibbin has been making headlines after deciding to join LIV Golf. Although it was speculated whether the young golfer would really follow in the footsteps of some of his older colleagues, Tom felt that LIV Golf was the best option for his career. Expectedly, furious reactions followed, and frustrated golf fans began to ask questions about why young golfers are primarily motivated by money.
Tom McKibbin made his debut in Saudi Arabia, and seven days later, he had the chance to perform in Adelaide, Australia, impressing everyone, finishing as T7.
The next challenge is LIV Golf Hong Kong.
In an interview with the media, the 22-year-old golfer shared his impressions of LIV so far, answering the question: Were there moments when he thought it was really cool to be part of the controversial Tour.
“I think in Australia for me, just the whole week”, he said, as quoted by Golf, by Tour Miss.
“I had obviously heard so much about it going into it, and then getting there and getting started and playing and getting to the party hole or the Watering Hole for the first time and not being able to hear myself think, after that I just couldn’t believe how different and how cool that experience was walking up that hole and playing that every day.”
That was probably for me the first real, wow, this is really cool and something that I had never experienced and just was excited to go back to that hole every day and try and hit a better shot.
Yeah, that was awesome”.
Tom McKibbin on Hong Kong
Speaking about Hong Kong, McKibbin pointed out that he really likes the course because it is not too long, which means that it is very important to stay on the fairway. He added that hitting the right side of the fairway is key because on some holes, even though you’re on the fairway, you can be a bit blocked.
This young golfer stressed that the greens are small and if you can get close or reach them, it gives you a good chance for birdie. According to him, the course is very interesting because it is not too long, and there are not many driver shots from the tee. McKibbin only played the first nine holes, but planned to play the rest later, noting that he had enjoyed his game so far.
