Three arrests for the March 8 raid on Trump Turnberry, the Scottish resort in South Ayrshire owned by the US president. They are a couple aged 75 and 66 and a 33-year-old. The former are said to be responsible for the writing Gaza is not for sale and other acts of vandalism on the greens of the prestigious course. The younger man is said to have defaced the clubhouse with red paint.
All three are now free but the courtrooms will open for them. The 33-year-old will appear on Monday. Local authorities have confirmed that investigations into the episode are ongoing.
Trump Turnberry Golf Course, news
The action of March 8 was claimed by the activist group Palestine Action. It was a protest against the proposal put forward by Trump for the United States to take control of the Gaza Strip. From those days is the video – created by a digital creator and then released by the tycoon – in which Gaza is imagined transformed into a beach. The film caused quite a stir and made international relations even more tense.
In a statement, Palestine Action said that “Donald Trump treats Gaza as if it were his property to be disposed of at will. To show him that his assets are not safe, we have decided to take action. We will continue to oppose US-Israeli colonialism in Palestinian land.”
For its part, a spokesperson for the Scottish resort condemned the incident, calling it “a childish criminal act.” The manager also assured that the work of the staff will ensure the smooth running of the scheduled activities. “Turnberry is a national treasure and will continue to be a symbol of luxury and excellence in the world of golf,” he added.
Despite still being part of the rotating host clubs of The Open, Trump Turnberry has not hosted the Major since 2009.
The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a basic element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the non-observance by many players of the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
