Xander Schauffele opens up about mistake he’s been making, following dad’s warning

Xander Schauffele hasn’t impressed on the PGA Tour this year, but the 31-year-old believes he will improve in the coming weeks. Considering the injury he suffered, fans knew that it won’t be that easy for Schauffele to return to his old form, especially when he said during the last tournament the most important thing is that he doesn’t feel pain.

Before the new tournament, the Valspar Champonship, the experienced golfer talked about his game, aware that he is not particularly impressive this season.

Schauffele explained where the main problem lies.

“I would say it’s been kind of a mixed bag.

I’ve kind of had stuff all over the place. I feel like I’m cramming for a test, and when I’m out there I feel like I’m still trying to study almost, not really just taking the test.”- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

Xander Schuaffele talks about mistakes

The world number 3 is aware that he makes a lot of mistakes, aware that he has to return to some basic things that his father told him about. Schauffele seems to be too focused on some things during practice and matches, and this creates additional problems for him.

“Today, whether it was a few swing videos that were taken, sent to Chris, I just didn’t look at ’em. I need to start looking… what my dad taught me a long time ago is look at the ball and react to the ball and not to how your swing looks.

I think I’ve gotten a little too nitpicky on swinging the club correctly and trying to get back in a good pattern when I was playing really good golf. Sometimes when you just focus on the task at hand versus the result you can get yourself there.”- he continued.

It’s always interesting to watch his performances, but whether Xander will really return to his old form and be as impressive as last season remains to be seen. It’s too early to draw any conclusions, considering that the season has just begun, with a lot of tournaments ahead of us.
