Yevgeny Kafelnikov fires subtle shot at Jannik Sinner over doping ban settlement

Yevgeny Kafelnikov appeared to take another shot at Jannik Sinner by indirectly insinuating that it was the Italian who pushed for a settlement.

In case you missed it, the world No. 1 won’t have to go to a CAS trial after he and the WADA agreed on a three-month suspension.

Before the deal between the two sides was struck, the WADA said they would seek a suspension in the range of one to two years for the 23-year-old.

For Sinner, this is not a pure win because he still didn’t avoid suspension.

But it’s also not the worst possible outcome, considering that he will be eligible to return to play on May 4th and compete at the French Open.

“And we never gonna find out who was initiator of the settlement (winking emoji),” Kafelnikov wrote on X.

Kafelnikov has already taken a couple od digs at Sinner

Shortly after the settlement news dropped, the former world No. 1 publicly wondered why would the 2025 Australian Open accept any kind of ban if he believed he was 100 percent innocent.

“I just don’t get it!! If you (are) absolutely 100% sure of your innocence(as he was before with his lawyers), why you accepting a 3 month ban?? Makes no sense to me,” the Russian tennis legend wrote on X.

In another tweet, Kafelnikov advised ATP players to simply boycott matches against Sinner.

“After (the) latest developments, I would do (the) following (assuming I was still playing). Every time I draw Sinner in the tournament, I do not go on court, doesn’t matter if first round or final. But I’m afraid not one will do (the) same,” the 2000 Sydney Olympics gold medalist wrote.
